The Leadership Project is an opportunity for college students to invest their summer with the hope that they would grow in their relationship with Jesus and lay the foundations to become a leader for Christ when they return to their campus and continue to be so after college for the rest of their lives. Students work jobs in the community to earn money for the summer and reach out to those with whom they work. Evenings and weekends are devoted to growth opportunities such as discipleship groups, Bible study, evangelism, and worship. This challenging schedule creates an ideal environment for students to grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ and develop ministry skills and leadership qualities.
WHAT DOES A WEEK LOOK LIKE ON THE LP?
A normal week on the LP consists of work, fun, and training. Each student is required to work a full-time job (30-45 hr/week) while on the LP. During the evening there are rallies which will consist of fun, training, and worship. Also during the week are organized social events that are hosted by the LP where we explore and have fun in Galveston.
TELL ME MORE ABOUT THESE TRAININGS…
One of the goals of the LP is to give each student the tools which will help them walk with God for the rest of their lives, whether that life is back to the college campus or beyond. In other words, the training you will receive on the LP aren’t just for your time on the LP. With this in mind, you will receive training on things such as living in a gospel-centered community, how to study the Bible, how to talk about your faith, how to grow as a spiritual leader, and more.
WHERE WILL I LIVE?
We are staying at the University Apartments, 602 Seawolf Park Blvd, Galveston, TX 77554. These apartments are right off campus from Texas A&M Galveston. Apartments will house students attending the LP, including a student room leader who will serve as a spiritual mentor.
WHERE WILL I WORK?
The LP works hard to develop relationships with local businesses in the Galveston area so that when a student attends the LP we have jobs lined up for them to apply to. Most students will work at the local amusement park.
I NEED AN INTERNSHIP FOR MY MAJOR… WHAT SHOULD I DO?
We are excited about students growing and developing in their career paths! We encourage you to seek out internships in the Galveston area. Students desiring to attend the LP with an internship opportunity will need to meet with the Project Director for review and approval. All jobs must fit within the mission and schedule of the LP in order for the student to maximize their experience.
WHAT DOES THE COST COVER?
The cost of the LP covers all housing costs for the duration of the summer. It also covers any training packets, materials and social events provided by the project. There will be a team meal provided by the LP on a weekly basis, but all other meals are the student’s responsibility. Each student attending the LP is responsible for paying the entirety of the cost of the project.
HOW CAN I PAY FOR THE LP?
Each student is required to work a full time job while attending the LP which can help offset the cost of the project. Each student can also fundraise to help offset the cost of the project.
HOW DO I FUND-RAISE?
Your Campus Outreach staff will provide training and coaching for each student who desires to fundraise for the LP. Once you apply and are accepted to the LP you will receive the training.
WHAT AM I COMMITTING TO WHEN I GO TO THE LP?
The leadership of the LP works hard to create an environment in order to maximize growth. One of the critical parts of this is each student’s commitment to live, play, and grow in community. This being said we ask each student to live on the Project, attend all events on the Project (including training, socials, church on Sundays, etc), as well as abide by all the LP Guidelines.
CAN MY PARENTS VISIT?
Yes! We have a weekend designed specifically for parents to come and experience the LP.
